Vintage Hand Carved Wood Foo Dogs Lions.
Two stunning vintage hand-carved Imperial Guardian Lions, colloquially known as Foo Dogs. These two specimens stand approx. 5 1/2” tall and 6 1/2” wide, and each are carved from a single piece of wood.
These Foo Dogs are exquisitely crafted, and the level of detail is impressive. In their mouths, each of them has a free-floating ball that was carved in place, and each Foo Dog has their front paws resting on a hollow ball with another free-floating ball inside. The photographs that accompany this listing illustrate this remarkable achievement.
Although they are very similar, a side-by-side comparison shows that they were individually fashioned by skilled artisans.
These Foo Dogs are clean and were well-cared for. They are a vintage set and as such, have minor wear to the finish as shown. One has a missing claw on its back paw. This is in image 4 and is circled in red.  If you need additional images, please let me know.
